A Taxi at 12,000 Meters? New Mini Jets Are About to Shake Up Air Travel

Make room for some new arrivals in the market for small aircraft. The new airplanes are called very light jets. They are also known by other names including mini jets, microjets and air taxis. The Federal Aviation Administration in the United States expects nearly five thousand to be in service by two thousand seventeen.

Piper Joins Jet Set At $2.2 Million

After 70 years in the plane-making business, Piper Aircraft Inc. today unveiled its first jet: a svelte, single-engine six-seater that the company is calling a “sport utility jet.” The PiperJet, as it’s been dubbed, will start at $2.2 million, and company executives expect deliveries will begin during the first half of 2010.

Bombardier Struts Its Stuff

Honeywell predicts 1,000 business Aviation Aircraft-Sales in 2007

Honeywell predicts business jet deliveries will break the 1,000-aircraft mark for the first time next year, up from the record 850 shipments expected this year.

Cessna Mustang Wins Certification

The champagne corks were surely popping in Wichita on September 8 when Cessna Aircraft announced it had earned full type certification of its newest jet, the Mustang. The paperwork was signed just short of four years after the company announced the project at the 2002 NBAA Convention in Orlando, Fla.

Private Jets For Everybody

Later this month an American entrepreneur called David Crowe will mount a podium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and mark a new era in aviation. He will be there to take delivery of an Eclipse 500, the first of a new generation of planes known as “very light jets” (VLJs).

Eclipse 500 Gets Final FAA Certification

Eclipse Aviation announced Saturday that its E500 “very light jet” has been fully certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. That means the small aircraft are cleared for delivery to customers.
